Flashbacks & Polaroids by Blind River Scare

Back in 2021, I had the privilege to review The Mileage Made by Newport’s Blind River Scare, and here we are in 2025, and we’re now enjoying Blind River Scare’s new album Flashbacks & Polaroids.

The past few years have certainly been reflective for many, and Flashbacks & Polaroids certainly reflects these reflective times in the band’s typical toe-tapping greatness. From the sumptuous yet bittersweet opening, Carousel of Postcards, replete with imagery of souvenir shops and snow globes, writing postcards and putting in words one’s regrets while still moving forward, is a poignant message to take us forward, to the sublime Gravity’s Pull, which reminds us that when things fall apart, things can be repaired, but what started will always be different.

Led by Tim Manning and supported by accompanying band Jem Ponsford, Stuart Loosemore and Mike Hopkins, who help bring Tim’s songs to life, and give a depth to warm the coldest of hearts. Flashbacks & Polaroids, once again, reminds us there are great artists out there who do what they love, and this really shines through in Tim’s writing on Flashbacks & Polaroids. This is truly high-quality songwriting from start to finish.   Flashbacks & Polaroids is a fantastic follow-up to The Mileage Made and stands as one of the finest albums I’ve heard in 2025.
